Doesn't it drive you crazy...

Who among us has yet to have the innocent onlooker ask you the number one question that players get asked while on the street, "Can you walk the dog?". For me the majority of the time the answer is "Yes i can but not with my expensive metal yoyo, if i get another scratch on it i will have to kill myself."They don't really understand this of course, which we can appreciate, after all, they aren't the ones spending $120+ on a new throw every couple weeks. I think most onlookers really do appreciate what your doing, alot of times i get really nice comments from people who most likely threw some when they were a kid and are just glad to see that their childhood toy has grown up in to such an exciting and technologically advanced sport. They may not say that, but i know they're thinking it. Most people in the world don't know the difference between spirit bomb or ladder escape so to them doing either trick just looks like an amazing feat that most surely could only be pulled off by a "professional" yoyoer. Most of the people at my office think i'm the greatest thrower in the world (very, VERY far from the truth.) but a few of them recently saw the World YoYo Contest on FSN and have come to appreciate the sport a bit more. Of course with that comes, "When are you going to be as good as those guys, on the best damn yoyo contest? After i cringe, i smile and say, "Check this out, its something new i've been working on..." At which point i proceed to walk the dog.

  1. sounds like where i work. i'm a desk clerk at a marriott up in north jersey (used to do it not too far from you in winston-salem, where i went to college) and this same stuff happens to me. they actually put the world yoyo contest up on the bar television one night and called me over, and the folks agreed that those guys are just insanely good.

put a little perspective on me, which i was glad for. i can do some cool-looking tricks, but by no means am i anywhere near awesome at it...

(this is frunk on the forums, btw)

  3. You make a few good points here, but a lot of views differ from most other yo-yoer's.
For instance, a lot of people couldn't care less to walk the dog with an expensive yo-yo (I'll do it if a cute girl asks me..), or at least give them a little arm grind and tell them it's a "new school way to do it".

Some people even will only bring certain yo-yo's into the public so that it's alright if they ding them, becuase it's not the end of the world.

And I myslef can't buy a new throw every few weeks, so i have dings anyway on all of my yo-yo's.
    Respectfully,
    Gary Couch
